Frequently Asked Questions

  • How often do I need health and safety training?

    Frequency of training is dependent on policy, policy decisions should be based upon risk assessment, types and complexity of client needs, and handling required.

  • What kind of first aid training do I need?

    Your company first aid risk assessment & company policy will determine the level of first aid assistance required however, the HSE has published some guidance.

  • Do I need to do a full first aid course again once my certificate runs out?

    When the Emergency First Aid at work certificate runs out, renewing it would mean completing the same 1 day course. However, when the 3 day First Aid at work certificate runs out, a delegate can complete the 2 day First Aid at work requalification, providing that they complete this course no longer than 28 days after their certificate has expired.

  • Who needs first aid training?

    Everybody. Accidents and emergencies happen everywhere and at any time and First Aid knowledge is a good life skill.

  • Does my company need only one First Aider?

    Your company first aid risk assessment & company policy will determine the level of first aid assistance required however, all shift patterns, holidays & absenteeism. 

  • Do I have to have the health and safety poster and does it need to be filled in?

    No. you can provide other alternatives such as pocket card, leaflet or brochure, available here. It doesn’t need to be filled in but it can help help provide useful information to your employees such as names of people with health and safety responsibilities.

  • Do I have to have portable appliance testing (PAT) every year?

    All electrical equipment used in the workplace must be maintained in a safe condition to meet the legal requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations. PAT testing itself is not a legal requirement, it is simply a method to identify if such maintenance is required.

  • Do I need a written health and safety policy?

    A documented health and safety policy is a legal requirement if you employ five or more people. If you have fewer than five employees you do not have to write anything down, though it is considered useful to do so if, for example, something changes.

  • Do I need a fire risk assessment?

    Employers and/or building owners or occupiers must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and keep it up to date including common areas of some residential premises.

  • Do I need an accident book?

    No, you must keep records in a confidential manner, however this could be electronically, a form or similar depending on the requirements of your business.

  • Do I have to have a fire marshall?

    Having your members of staff as Fire Marshal’s will help you conform to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. A Fire Marshal should also be trained to evacuate and provide fire safety assistance in the case of an emergency.
